Kris Godinez

Licensed Professional Counselor. Author. Speaker.

Helping you heal and break free.

Hi, I’m Kris. I can almost guarantee that you’ve never met another counselor, speaker, and author like me.

I have an uncanny knack of seeing through people to pull back their defenses and help them see who they’re being and who they need to be to change their lives. Using personal anecdotes, humor, and my characteristic from-the-hip way of communicating, I break down walls and start the process of healing.

My Story

I resonate with my clients and my audience because I have experienced what they’re experiencing. I was in a relationship with a narcissist, and I understand the mechanisms of that kind of codependent interaction. After escaping that scenario, I pursued a career as a counselor.

I truly want to help people get out alive and passionately believe that no one has to live their life like that.

Trained originally as an actor, I saw the dysfunction in Hollywood and the behind-the-scenes issues many actors were facing. It was there that I began listening. And helping. I later received a Master of Counseling from the University of Phoenix, followed by designations as a licensed associate counselor (LAC) in 2006 and licensed professional counselor (LPC) in 2009.

My Approach

While the clients I counsel are all working to escape abusive relationships, each is unique in their experiences. Therefore, my approach is equally as unique.

I use a variety of modalities in my practice, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and Freudian. Whatever is needed is what I use.

I do not work with insurance as I do not want clients to feel limited by the restraints of what insurance will or will not cover. Instead, it is up to the client as to how often they want to go to counseling and how long works for them. When are ready, I let them go.

Some of the topics on which I present include:

  • Workplace bullying
  • Dealing with toxic family members
  • End-of-life issues when there’s an abuser in the family
  • Red flags of an unhealthy relationship
  • What is a healthy relationship
  • Dealing with stalkers
